The hunt's circle shrinks over 30 days until it pins the exact spot (official rules). Started 8:28 PM MDT, May 18 2026 → reveal ~Jun 17 2026, 8:28 PM MDT (Jun 18, 02:28 UTC).
Data-driven estimate: Great Basin basalt slope, lat ~37–38° N Longitude UNRESOLVED, UT↔NV (~110.5–116° W) — it hinges on the camera-clock offset, which the data can't bound. Candidates ranked below.

The evidence chain (physics only)

Latitude(clock-independent) Day-length ~14.1 h → ~37–38° N (soft; honest band 34–39°). moderate
LongitudeSolar midnight 07:17–07:23 UTC → 110.5° W if clock = UTC — but no young basalt there. Reconciling needs an unknown clock offset: +8 min → 112.5° W (UT), +~18 min → ~116° W (NV). Genuinely unresolved. low
GeologyFresh vesicular aa basalt + soil-rooted big sagebrush/cheatgrass, no trees → Great Basin cold desert. Fits UT and NV. high
CameraFaces ~east, mirrored, roll −25°, FOV ~55° (from the moon's motion). No distant horizon → no skyline/DEM fix. measured

Honest call: physics cannot separate Utah from Nevada — longitude rides on the clock offset, and the discriminators that could settle it (a far-horizon skyline, an absolute bearing) aren't in the imagery. If anything, scene elevation (~1,800 m) + mature soil lean marginally to Lunar Crater VF, NV over the low Utah flows. The earlier confident "Black Rock" pin was assumption-driven.

Caveats

Longitude rests on the inferred ~8-min clock offset (unverifiable without ADS-B). If the clock were exact, the scene would sit at 110.5° W — but no young basalt exists there, so that branch is disfavored. Subfield markers are approximate (town-referenced); refine with USGS polygons. "Waterfall Hunt" is a codename — the scene is an arid basalt slope, no waterfall.
